Abdon

Abdon [Heb. ʿabdon]. A personal name and the name of a city.

1. Son of Hillel the Pirathonite who judged Israel for eight years. He had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode on seventy donkeys (Judg 12:13-15).

2. Son of Shashak, a Benjamite who lived in Jerusalem (1 Chr 8:23, 28).

3. Firstborn of Jeiel, chief of the tribe of Benjamin who lived in Gibeon (1 Chr 8:30). King Saul was a descendant of this Abdon (1 Chr 9:36-39).

4. Son of Micah and one of the messengers sent by King Josiah to Huldah, the prophetess, to seek guidance about the book found in the Temple by Hilkiah, the priest (2 Chr 34:19-21). He is called Achbor, son of Michaiah, in 2 Kings 22:12.

5. A Levitical city in the tribal territory of Asher (Josh 21:30; 1 Chr 6:74).
