Be Eshterah

Be Eshterah [Heb. be‘eshterah]. A Levitical city.

One of the two cities allotted to the sons of Gershon out of the territory of the tribe of Manasseh beyond Jordan (Josh 21:27). The name of the city is probably an abbreviation for Beth ‘Ashterah, “house of Astarte.” Be Eshterah seems identical with Ashtaroth (1 Chr 6:71).
