Beryl
Beryl [Heb. tarshish; Grk. berullos]. A precious stone or semi-precious gem.
Beryl is the first stone in the fourth row of stones on the breastplate the high priest (Exod 28:20; 39:13). It is also mentioned in several other times in the OT in descriptions of (a) the male lover in Song of Solomon 5:14, (b) the wheels in Ezekiel’s vision (Ezek 1:16; 10:9), (c) “the king of Tyre” (Ezek 28:13), and (d) the superhuman figure Daniel’s vision (Dan 10:6). In Revelation, beryl is mentioned as the eighth precious stone with which the foundations of the wall of the New Jerusalem was adorned (Rev 21:20).
