Son of Cainan, son of Enosh, son of Seth, son of Adam, Mahalalel lived eight hundred and ninety-five years and fathered Jared and other sons and daughters (Gen 5:15-17). He is mentioned in Luke's genealogy of Jesus as "the son of Cainan, the son of Enosh, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God" (Luke 1: 37-38).
