Michmethath

Michmethath. A place name.

Michmethath was on the border between the territories of Ephraim and Manasseh, located “east of Shechem” and north of Tappuah (Josh 16:6; 17:7). Since Ephraim lay south of Manasseh, Michmethath marked the northern border of Ephraim and the southern border of Manasseh. The text does not make clear whether it was a settlement or a prominent geographical feature. The use of the definite article with the name in Hebrew may suggest a well-known landmark. Proposed identifications include the Jebel el-Kabir mountain range, the Wadi Bedan valley, and sites such as Khirbet Ibn Naser, Khirbet Ta’na el-Foqa, Khirbet Kafr Beta, or Khirbet Juleijil. Its precise location remains uncertain.
