Mint [Grk. hēdousmon]. A sweet-smelling herb
The word is used in two passages where Jesus condemns the Pharisees' minute obedience to the Mosaic law exemplified by their tithing of herbs including mint while neglecting weightier aspects of the law: "justice and mercy and faith" (Matt 23:23) and "the justice and the love of God" (Luke 11:42). Mint was used as condiment and medicine.
