Rumor
Rumor [Heb. shemu‘ah; Grk. akoē]. A report or information circulating from unverifiable or doubtful sources. The Hebrew and Greek terms simply mean “hearing,” and can denote factual news (e.g., 2 Kgs 19:7; Jer 51:46; Ezek 7:26; Matt 4:24; Mark 13:7). The Bible warns against false reports (Exod 23:1). Jesus also taught His followers not to be deceived by false reports of His second coming taking place in some places, teaching that His coming will be visible to all (Matt 24:23-28).
